Federal, State and Local Officials to Conduct Financial Wellness Conference for Seniors Tomorrow

Saturday’s Event in Portland will Provide Guidance and Resources to Help Seniors Protect their Assets and Guard Against Financial Exploitation

PORTLAND, MAINE  –  Upwards of 300 seniors are expected to attend tomorrow’s “Consumer University:  Exercising Financial Wellness” conference in Portland.  Federal, state and local officials will provide advice and materials designed to help attendees protect their resources and guard against becoming the victim of financial exploitation.

The event will address a variety of key topics, including common and emerging investment scams, Medicare fraud, identify theft, the suitability of annuity products, mail fraud, and reverse mortgages.  Expert speakers will represent Maine’s Department of Professional and Financial Regulation, AARP Maine, the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, and the Gorham Police Department.

The conference will open with remarks from Commissioner Anne Head of Maine’s Department of Professional and Financial Regulation.  Maine Securities Administrator Judy Shaw will moderate the program.  Presentations will conclude at 1:00 p.m.  Additional details and scheduling information accompanies this media advisory as an attachment.
